I'm A REAL Girl!

For our entire 5 1/2 years of marriage, Spencer and I have constantly been working toward, planning for, anticipating the day when we would be "real people".  It didn't come when we graduated BYU, or when we had our first baby, our second, or our third.  It didn't come when we became financially independent, or when we planned and paid for our first real family vacation... Everything we have done has been in preparation for graduating Grad School and starting the rest of our lives.   I can't emphasize enough that all of our lives and plans have led to the great mystery of what comes after grad school.

Okay, he didn't graduate yet, it would be a weird time of year for that, don't you think?  But yesterday (last friday) my husband who has a fear of career-commitment (hence his love for consulting, which puts you on different types of projects every few months) finally committed to a full-time post-MBA job, which means we know where we are beginning the rest of our lives!

And that place is.....

dun dun dun....

dun... dun.. dun....

Bentonville, Arkansas!

Of all the places that we considered, imagined for all these years... Bentonville Arkansas was not one of them.

Many of you may know already that Bentonville is the birthplace of Walmart and is where the company is still headquartered.  Yes, my husband will be working for the "Behemoth of Bentonville"!  Oh, sure, people have a lot of bad things to say about Walmart but I have always loved it.  To me it stinketh not.

We're very very excited about this great opportunity for Spencer to work at this great company and also the opportunity for our family to live in Bentonville.  We got to go see Bentonville quickly last month as we considered our options and really, I loved it.  It's small.  Spanish Forkish, for my fellow Utah-countyers.  And then there are a few Provo-ish sized "suburbs".  But we liked Bentonville proper and will be looking there for housing.

After accepting, Spencer came out of the room and tossed chocolates all over the place in celebratory fashion.  The girls caught on to the excitement and stuffed their faces.

Yay, Spencer!  I'm so excited for him and proud of him and grateful for him.  He has made a lot of sacrifices for me and my sanity over the years and is the only reason I'm not checked in to an instution right now.  And inspite of all the family demands he's had he still managed to rock his interviews and get a great job in a place where the kids will be safe, have great schools, we'll be so close to the office, etc.

I am so so so so excited.  I have been watching every episode of  HGTV's "my first place", to try to warm up for house hunting.  It's all I can think about.  Arkansas!  Who knew?

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Layla is getting cuter every day.

I know exactly what you mean--for some reason real life doesn't seem like it starts until after grad school. It must feel pretty great, I am more than a little jealous--even of Bentonville!

Congrats! And that picture with Spencer in the bag reminded me of the time those boys decided to do a "make-your-own-swimsuit" hot tub party in King Henry. Luckily, I didn't get to witness most the outfits and got to hear secondhand...

#1. We finished grad school five years ago, and I'm still waiting for our "real" life to start.
#2. Congratulations! As you know, I loathe Walmart, but I will hence forth repent and mend my ways.
#3. I don't ever foresee visiting Arkansas, so we'll just have to be blog buddies forever. Dang it. I was hoping you'd move to my subdivision.

SO, I just went there! Devin's aunt lives there! It really really was beautiful and they actually live by 'fayetville, which is super cute town too and when we went there kid you not, RIGHT in the middle of town, they entire town was out fishing, like 50 people(including children) standing shoulder to shoulder with their poles in the water. Devin tried to convince me to move there only because they have an "awesome football stadium." But at the time seemed waaay to random to me. I'm so happy for you guys though and can't wait for us to know where WE will live forever.
Oh by the way you dinner "prayer" conversations with Cadence sound EXACTLY like ours EVERY night. Cache it's your turn to say the prayer." silence...silence...
Cache, it's. "YOUR TURN DAD!" EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. no exceptions. It must be passed down through the orton genes somewhere. :)

I'm so so thrilled for Spencer that he's finally going to be able to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a Walmart greeter! So proud!

Haha! No, but really. So excited for you guys. And a little jealous. But more excited. Such a relief to have the process completed.

And I'm sorry, but I'd take a little town over the behemoths we've been living in for the past 4 year any day. You guys are gonna rule that place. Congrats again!

I too love Walmart! Not because it's a good company (I worked there for the dreariest two months of my life) but because I didn't have it on St. Kitts. I had to go a whole year hunting from store to store for the ingredients I needed (made worse by the fact that everything was imported). congratulations and hopefully I'll get to see your family soon!

Hooray! Congratulations!!! You're going to love it down in the Ozarks. :) You'll be just caddy-corner from my romping grounds in Oklahoma. And Wal-Mart! Talk about job security!! I believe that even if an h-bomb blew up the entire planet, Wal-Mart would still stand... along with all the roaches.

And Layla's smile is ADORABLE!

You know that we were excited to hear that Spencer took the job in Arkansas! Richard said he didn't actually serve in Bentonville but another town close by (in the same area). And, I'm serious that he has never had a desire to go back to his mission (he's just that type of person), but he might now (being that he seriously considered taking a job in the Bay Area that paid the same amount as the job in Utah just to live close to you and Spencer - ya, good thing we didn't do that). So, I definitely see a trip to see you in our future. I'm also way excited to see you settle down, get a house, and make it your home. Love you guys!
P.S. The name of our little guy is still up in the air, but it's looking like it really will be Clive... if you sponsor him!

I am a dedicated Walmart shopper, myself & glad to know that Spencer will be part of the team!
