26 going on 30.

It is possible that this is partially in response to my sister's post about still looking like a teenager even though she is going on 30 this year. But mostly it's in response to looking into the mirror a few minutes ago (not my choice-forced because I had to wash my hands).
Merica and I. I'm workin' the anti-aging mask and Merica's is an "aging mask". You wish, Mer. (Okay, it's not really us. The hair should have really given it away. and the bare shoulders).

I've always had a love/hate relationship with my skin. On the one hand, it seems blotchy, blushes and sunburns easily (but not evenly), has a handful of moles and freckles, and is picky about moisturizers. On the other, it is relatively hair-less, soft and smooth, looks good with red hair, and is probably my most complimented upon feature (other than my hair, but we don't need to talk about why that doesn't count, right?)
You can't really see how bad my skin has gotten here, but you can see my cute new hair cut that my cousin Kim did. She's awesome and charges $25! And why can't I ever just not look awkward in a picture? That's a topic for another narcissistic post.

Ah, here's one that will make you see things my way. Just not pleasant. And again, just can't take a non-awkward picture. Still.

So here's the deal. Between being on the "wrong side of 25", being in the harsh Chicago environment, and maybe my recently intensified sweet tooth, and lack of sleep (remember my post about Campbell's sleep?) my skin has become quite a problem. When winter hit my friend gave me some all natural facial soap that is extremely mild, and I bought Cetaphil to moisturize since my usual stuff wasn't cutting it for the winter skin. My face burns when I moisturize, my pores are huge, I have zits (not pregnant, by the way), and my wrinkles seem exaggerated.

Okay, I'm not just fishing for some validation. I'm fishing for some product or treatment recommendations. Any products that you have found that really help your skin? I want to look like I'm 16, like Merica. :) No, actually I just want to not hate looking at my own face.

Oh, how I wish I knew the answer to this conundrum. Maybe when our wrinkles grow out enough, we can fold over the ugly blotchy spots? That's what I'm banking on. That, and someone brilliant commenting on your blog and solving all my problems!

p.s. you're beautiful, so deal with it.

I really love Aveeno radiant formula spf 15 and the every other night I use Ageless intensives deep wrinkle moisture night and on the other nights it's Olay regenerist I see big improvements when I use this routine. and you are beautiful by the way and you look great.

I want to feel bad for you, I really do, but everyone who meets you is like "wow, your sister is gorgous.. you don't even look related." but it's still no fun to have skin issues.. I take prednisone for mine, but if you don't want the moonface to go with it you could also try clinique almost make-up. I love it. I hate foundation, but it seems to really subtly even out my skin and it doesn't have a yucky smell, and I also love their facial soap bar. I get the one for combination skin, but I think they have one for sensitive skin.. I started using those two items a couple years ago and I think the appearance of my skin has improved. Also, drink lots of water and cut out sugar, well, as much as you can, and eat LOTS of fruit and veggies and you'll notice a difference. And I take fish oil pills every day for my health, but I think that it's also good for your skin. Love you.. and by the way, You look very youthful. I think I am just immature, and that's why people think I'm so young:)

LOVE your hair! And I've got nothing on the skin issue... sorry. I started using cetaphil face wash, which is really gentle and moisturizing. That's my two bits.

I resent the implication of this title. That 30 is...old? Hmmm. I'll have to think about that this week.

You seriously look so youthful. Like Andrea said, you're beautiful, so deal with it. It's like the time you told me you were ugly in high school. Oh, that was funny!

Have you ever tried Murad? It's kind of expensive, but I really like it. They have a face wash for skin that has been exposed to harsh environments. You might give it a try.

LOVE your new haircut!!! Very flattering. My face goes nuts in the winter too. It dries out easily and gets super red and blotchy for a while after I exercise or shower. The stuff I use is the orange Neutrogena acne wash. It dries out my face a lot, but it usually keeps zits away. I have to use Olay moisturizing lotion every day to balance out the dryness. But I really think every face is different and you just have to find what works for you.

By the way, I agree -- you know you're gorgeous.

So jealous of your cut and the natural color that God gifted you with. It's absolutely fabulous.
I use baby products on my face and I like them. Mustela and Cera-ve cream, in the tub behind the rx counter at Target. Worth the 16$.
Return and report. Oh, and I use bare minerals and swear by it.
Miss you. Will return your call soon.

You are so funny. When I think of you, I remember nothing but a beautiful face...always. I have no idea about facial product, my skin always look dull. For mosturizer, I like "hope in a jar SPF 20" by philosophy (saphora) and vitamin C moisturizer spf 15 by the Body Shop.
Love your hair cut....

Wow, you have a lot of suggestions to try out. I hope you find something that works! I have tried Bare Minerals once and liked it, I want to purchase, but its expensive. Its a great foundation that is light and I hear people say it helps their skin. Also, I found that I couldn't wash my face day and night. I've found that I wash in the morning and at night just use a warm wash cloth. Lotion in the morning, but not at night is what works for me. I'm interested to see if you find anything that works out of all these suggestions. Do tell!

Adeverat a inviat!
Thanks for your comment about Nelson's suit. I do tend to treat him like a doll... and entertain everyone at his expense!
Um, and about your skin... God gives us all flaws to humble us. Some have many (like me), and others have just one (like you). You are so naturally beautiful in every way, he had to give you one obstacle to overcome... and I'm being dead serious. Your gorgeous and have a gift with the Romanian language.
