April Monsoons bring May....

uh, repairs?
It's been raining.  Like, more than my little Utah-girl self has ever seen.  I feel a little scared, like I should be getting ready to get the heck outta Dodge.   Rain.  Lighting for days.  Thunder that shakes the house, more than once in a year.  That doesn't happen in Utah.

You know what else doesn't happen?  Hanging out in the walk-in fridge of Braum's (ice cream/burger joint) as a tornado shelter.  Literally, the fridge.  Thankfully, Spencer had gathered jackets and a picnic blanket we keep in the car, and we hunkered down in that cold, cold refrigerator for about 30 minutes while the tornado jumped around Bville!

Afterward, the manager told us we could have any ice cream items we wanted for free, since we were so cooperative.  Uh, FREE?!?  Yes, please.  We enjoyed ourselves.

Our backyard turned into a river and I thanked my lucky stars I live near the top of a hill.  Our little tree in the back tipped on it's side as it's roots lost some ground.  Our trampoline floated away.  Oh, not really, but I swear I was waiting for it!The rain gutter was like a bathtub's faucet on full-blast.  Some serious PSI here, people.  (What, you didn't spend your teenage years working at a sprinkler store?  Water pressure.)

So, is the whole world having crazy weather?  Seems like it.  Maybe the Mayans are right. 2012 could really be the end of us all, if the weather is any sign of all h-e-double hockey sticks breaking loose.  Or is it that I grew up in a desert?

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

I've been thinking about how close you guys have been to the tornados they talked about on the news. Scary! Glad you're ok. Your vaca looks like so much fun although I wouldn't be caught dead in any small underground spaces. Too much like a grave. Miss you.

I've been wondering how your family is doing down there, thanks for the post. Yes, such storms are relatively normal, you live in Tornado Alley! All up and down the east coast you'll see storms like that from time to time as well. I love big storms, though I freely admit I've never been in a flood or a serious tornado watch. Chicago has been eternally rainy this spring with some thunder but no floods or anything.

OH my GOODNESS!!! That is so insane. I bet things will be gorgeously green before you know it.. I see you went on a trip! HOORAY for Bettermoons. Can't wait to read all about it :) Let's talk sometime. For reals. I'm THE worst.

Note to self: if there is ever a tornado warning, make sure you head for the nearest ice cream store!

Lucky.

(weather here: same ol'. Although I believe the wind's PSI (what is wind measured in?) is ridiculously high. Even for this neck of the woods.)

I LOVE THOSE STORMS!!! And I have missed them terribly every since leaving Oklahoma. You'll get used to it, don't worry. And when you go back to Utah and they get all scared because of a "thunder storm," you'll be like, "That ain't nuthin', honey! Let me tell you about Spring Showers in Arkansas!"

Um Boise never gets any action, and I miss it a liiiitle tiny bit. But not the suuper bad storms. I would pace and pace all night long and while checking and rechecking the weather station, the weather radio, and the sky to see if it turned purple or green yet. Those nights were sooo scary! Do you have a basement?
I can't believe you stayed in a FREEZER! Mardee. I'm so stinkin excited to see you guys. ARe you REALLY coming? We will start praying for you to be safe.

You know we haven't had anything quite so crazy here in Utah, BUT I have lived here almost my whole life and I swear spring wasn't going to come this year!
I loved the Monsoons in Arizona, but I really doubt they are anything like what you experienced there.
Love you. Glad you are safe and happy and I swear you are one of the happiest families I've ever known--EVER! :)
